The Drying Plain

Global temperatures have risen to heights not seen in 125,000 years. Rivers and lakes are drying up, wildlife is visibly in trouble, invasive pests are taking over, and even the energy transition aimed at reducing emissions is placing a burden on our environment. These increasingly tangible issues in the Carpathian Basin—and the possible solutions to them—are the focus of our new six-part podcast series, Drying Plain, produced by Qubit in collaboration with the Press Freedom Foundation of Vojvodina.

The series, whose first episode will be released in one week on April 16, will shed light on the environmental changes caused by human activity in Hungary and Vojvodina, and the questions raised by the need to adapt to these changes. With the help of local residents, farmers, artists, experts, and researchers, Drying Plain will explore how human activity has transformed the lowland landscape, what challenges Vojvodinian farmers face due to climate change, how we could better defend against invasive insects, how water pollution complicates daily life in Vojvodina, and why battery factory investments in Hungary have sparked intense protests.

Truck Drivers Camioneros Vie de routieres

Truck Drivers

Every day, thousands of lorries criss-cross the roads of Europe to deliver the products we consume with hardly a thought. This huge, often invisible logistics chain is essential to our daily lives.

But this crucial sector is in crisis: Europe is already short of 230,000 drivers, a figure that could rise to more than 700,000 in the years ahead.

"Truck Drivers" is the story of an indispensable profession, but also of an economic and logistical system under strain. It's a story of exploitation, fierce competition and a balance that has spiralled out of control.

Embark on a truck journey across Europe and discover the stories of those whose work connects us every day. A job that, on its own, could bring the whole of Europe to a standstill.

"Truck Drivers" is a Europod and SER Podcast co-production for the WePod project.

Sea of Rage - Mare di Rabbia - Mar de Rabia

Sea of Rage

Sea of Rage' is the first co-production born within WePod, the European journalistic podcast project financed by the European Union led by PRISA Media in which 8 partners from 7 countries working together for 2 years will produce 24 cross-border podcasts.

In this first co-production, Podium Podcast, in Spain, and Chora Media, in Italy, have focused on the impact that drug trafficking has on two small coastal towns in southern Europe: Barbate, in Spain and Gioia Tauro, in Italy.

The journalists Manu Tomillo and Javi Caminero, from Podium Podcast, and the Italian journalist Francesca Berardi, from Chora Media, guide us through the streets of Barbate and Gioia Tauro to make us participate in the reality in which its inhabitants live, who, in 1941 kilometers apart, share large unemployment figures, complaints against institutions, problems associated with drug trafficking and silence. But also, the dignity of  the neighbors who fight to recover their peace and make their land a better place to live.

WePod Guide to Audio Storytelling

This podcast mini-series gives tips on how to manage the storytelling process from finding a story and crafting your piece to recording and editing your podcast.

As part of the WePod European Podcasting project, News Decoder ran a series of podcasting workshops in secondary and higher level educational institutions across Europe. These workshops, aimed at young people between the ages of 14-25 gave us an insight into the podcasting landscape and young people’s need when approaching and understanding podcasting.

This audio guide to storytelling aims to address the gaps in confidence and knowledge that young people and professionals face when getting into podcasting and storytelling.
